EVENT: ENAR attends First Session of the Permanent Forum on People of African Descent
A small delegation from the ENAR Board is currently in Geneva attending the First Session of the Permanent Forum on People of African Descent.
It follows the General Assembly resolution 75/314, where the Permanent Forum was created as “a consultative mechanism for people of African descent and other relevant stakeholders as a platform for improving the safety and quality of life and livelihoods of people of African descent, as well as an advisory body to the Human Rights Council, in line with the programme of activities for the implementation of the International Decade for People of African Descent and in close coordination with existing mechanisms”.
As we now near the close of the Decade in 2024, ENAR recounts how we advocated for EU’s first ever People of African Descent Week in 2018 and the European Commission’s appointment of a Commission coordinator for anti-racism following the EU Anti-racism Action Plan 2020-2025.
We are now using this new UN forum to call on EU member states to adopt National Action Plans against racism that will improve the lives of Black people in Europe.
