Politicians who have endorsed our equality demands for the next European Parliament

ENAR is asking candidates to the European elections to commit to our top 7 equality demands for the next European Parliament

The next European Parliament to be elected in May 2014 has a crucial role to play when it comes to reducing the entrenched inequalities faced by its citizens and residents. Among these are ethnic minorities and migrants who often face discrimination on multiple grounds: ethnic origin, nationality, religion, social status, income, gender or age.

We are asking candidates and political parties to commit to our top 7 demands to advance equality in the EU. Leading Members of the European Parliament and running candidates have already endorsed our demands because they are convinced that they will lead to a better and more equal Europe and are also sound, concrete and achievable.

“I welcome and fully endorse the 7 ENAR Equality Demands”

Martin Schulz votes for diversity!
“I welcome the 7 ENAR Equality Demands for the New European Parliament. The fight against racism must be intensified. I do not want to live in a European Union where discrimination against any group or individual is accepted. I agree in spirit to these demands, even though I can´t agree to everything to the letter. I believe that the issues raised are vital and require urgent political action. I believe we need strong European and national policies to integrate people from all regions in the world in our society. If I am elected Commission President I will commit to an ambitious equality agenda.”

Guy Verhofstadt supports equality!
“I can assure you of my full support to ENAR’s equality demands, and I will definitely advocate for a greater political focus of EU policies towards civil liberties.
In my plan for Europe, which I presented as part of my candidacy to the Presidency of the European Commission, one of the main elements of my civil liberties priorities is the adoption under the next Commission term of a modern EU anti-discrimination law. I intend to take the lead in delivering an efficient legislative framework that would benefit all citizens, which to my view is a vital element if we want to ensure equality for all, throughout the Union.”
