Liberation cannot be fragmented: No queer liberation without anti-racist and decolonial liberation – World Refugee Day Joint Statement

This joint statement exposes the contradiction at the heart of the EU’s approach to LGBTIQ+ rights and migration. While institutions position Europe as a defender of equality, racialised LGBTIQ+ refugees continue to face detention, deportation, surveillance, and systemic exclusion. These dynamics are not isolated, but rooted in intersecting systems of racism, colonialism, and border violence.

Grounded in transfeminist, anti-racist, and decolonial analysis, the statement rejects the instrumentalisation of queer rights in service of exclusionary and racialised policies. It affirms that liberation cannot be fragmented and calls for collective resistance across movements.
