Equality data collection in employment: latest Equal@work report
Data collection is technical and can be daunting for many employers. Yet it is at the core of successful diversity management policies.
How can employers put in place diversity management policies if they do not have any data on the diverse profiles of their workforce or on the discrimination they might experience?
Companies committed to diversity must be able to name the problems, take targeted action and measure the results of their actions.
Equality data can provide powerful tools against discrimination and exclusion, shedding light on the situation of employees that are at risk of discrimination. But the data must be collected according to voluntary self-identification of ethnic and religious minorities. Building trust and ensuring their active participation is also key.
This report of ENAR’s 6th Equal@work meeting on data collection in employment and the workplace gives an overview of data collection practices put in place by employers and some of the principles that should underpin equality data collection. It also puts forward a number of recommendations for equality data collection in employment.
