ENARs achievements in February 2017

-ENAR’s recommendations and amendments on the Blue Card Directive (EU employment scheme for highly skilled migrant workers) review were taken up by several Members of the European Parliament and are in the Civil Liberties Committee’s draft report.

-ENAR was invited to present its work on intersectionality and Forgotten Women report on the impact of Islamophobia on Muslim women at a high-level conference on gender based violence organised by the Maltese Presidency of the European Union.

-ENAR took the lead in building a coalition of NGOs to prepare campaign strategies and reactions to the ruling of the EU Court of Justice regarding prohibition of headscarves in employment foreseen on 14 March.

Members’ achievements:

-Le Cran in France and other activists mobilised to change the racist name of a famous venue in Paris recently re-opened under its historic name ‘bal nègre’ (‘negro ball’). The name was changed following this mobilisation.

-Jamie Schearer, ENAR Board member and representative of Initiative for Black people in Germany (ISD-Bund) spoke at a widely attended debate on Afrophobia at the Afropolitan festival in Brussels, Belgium.
