ENAR delegation contributes to US Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Legislative Conference
Washington DC, 19 September 2016 – A delegation of anti-racism activists of the European Network Against Racism (ENAR) joined a European delegation to the United States Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Legislative Conference to advance diverse transatlantic political leadership.
The ENAR delegation took part in a study tour convened by the Transatlantic Minority Political Leadership Conference on the occasion of the annual Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Legislative Conference and Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s Public Policy Conference. Members of the delegation contributed to proceedings of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Legislative Conference, attended by more than 9,000 of the United States top African-American and other leaders, and held a number of discussions with Members of the US Congress, representatives of the Congressional Black Caucus and civil rights leaders.
“As leaders aspiring to create change and inclusion, we have a great task ahead that must transcend geographical and political boundaries to formulate strategies for common ground,” said Jallow Mamadou, Chair of ENAR’s Steering Group on Afrophobia. “This trip enabled us to build coalitions, so that the US and Europe work together to advance people of African descent and other diverse communities in a way that will unify and strengthen our countries at a time when other forces seek to use prejudice and violence to divide us.”
On the occasion, Jallow Momodou was also honoured to receive an 2016 Community Healer Award for outstanding contributions to the struggle for human rights for Europeans of African ancestry.
Founded in 2010, the Transatlantic Minority Political Leadership Conference (TMPLC) aims to support a network of racially and ethnically diverse elected officials, address the underrepresentation of diverse populations in policymaking, and advance inclusive and equitable policies in the United States and Europe. Rep. Alcee L. Hastings, Ranking Member of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe is a co-founder of the TMPLC.
