ENAR’s achievements in January 2015

Check out ENAR’s main achievements and impact during the month of January.

– ENAR’s new book“Invisible Visible Minority – Confronting Afrophobia and Advancing Equality for People of African Descent and Black Europeans in Europe” was launched on 21 January. The FRA publicly committed to look specifically at the situation of people of African descent in an upcoming report, the European Commission (Fundamental Rights Unit, DG JUST) committed to discuss the idea of an EU strategy to combat Afrophobia internally. MEP Malin Bjork said she is keen on LIBE to commission a report on this form of racism specifically.

– ENAR’s suggestion to demand an EU framework for national strategies to combat Islamophobia was picked up by MEP Barbara Spinelli (IT, GUE/NGL) in a Written Question to the European Commission. ENAR’s exact wording was used. (Link not yet available)

– In January alone, ENAR was mentioned 41 times in print, online and audio-visual media, including in El Pais (ES) and De Standaard (BE). ENAR was also in an hour-long live talk show on Al Jazeera. Most were related to the Paris attacks and their impact across Europe. ENAR published two op-eds, on equality data collection (in Euractiv) and the Pegida movement in Europe (in EUObserver).
