Why is ENAR raising money?

ENAR is facing a critical funding gap at a moment when anti-racism work has never been more urgent or more under threat.

In times of increased racism, deepening equalities, and the normalisation of far-right ideologies, the funding landscape for racial justice organisations is shrinking dramatically. Private foundations are retracting from the field for political and geopolitical reasons. Corporate commitments to racial justice, many being performative, have evaporated, especially post-Trump election, with DEI programs being cut across sectors.

At the same time, while the European Commission has funded ENAR for over 25 years, we have not yet signed our operating grant for 2026-2028, despite receiving our highest evaluation score in history. Up until now, the European Commission was our largest funder.

We cannot stand idle. We need to find alternative sources of long-term support: from private individuals, engaged citizens, and ethical businesses.

Every contribution helps strengthen the European anti-racist movement, against the far-right agenda.

Why did you lose funding?

We have not lost funding, but we are facing significant uncertainty and delays. Some private foundations have retracted from racial justice work or shifted priorities. Others have delayed funding decisions. This combination creates an acute funding disruption and cash flow uncertainty that requires us to diversify our support base urgently.

How much do we need to raise?

We need a minimum of €50,000 to continue supporting our network of 140+ anti-racist organisations across Europe, and €100,000 to pursue our full campaigning and advocacy work to dismantle structural racism and hold institutions accountable at both EU and member-state levels. Every contribution brings us closer to securing the future of Europe’s anti-racism essential infrastructure.

What will the funding be needed for?

ENAR is the only pan-European network for racial justice, combining EU-level policy advocacy with grassroots capacity-building. Your donation supports:

Network Coordination & Support
Regional meetings, thematic working groups, and our Summer Retreat that bring together 140+ grassroots organisations to strategise, heal, and organise collectively

Training & Capacity-Building
Programs on fundraising, community organising, and campaigning that equip anti-racist activists with skills to fight back effectively.

Research & Policy Advocacy
Evidence-based work on migration, climate and economic justice, digital rights, gender justice, employment, National Action Plans Against Racism (NAPARs), rule of law, and civic space

The Empowerment and Resilience Fund
Direct grants to approximately 20 frontline member anti-racist organisations each year, groups often excluded from mainstream philanthropy.

How can I support this campaign?

There are 4 powerful ways to help

1. Donate: while we welcome one-time contributions, we especially need monthly supporters who provide the stable funding that sustains our network of 140+ grassroots organisations and our evidence-based advocacy work.

2. Amplify: become an ENAR Ambassador by sharing the campaign https://donorbox.org/fund-enar through your networks, social media, friends, family, communities. Share our message and campaign on social media. Our account is often shadowbanned and our voices are silenced by the Big Tech algorithms.

3. Create content around the campaign: if you know, or if you are an influencer or content creator, we would be happy to connect and collaborate. We need a maximum of visibility and people who could spread the word of ‘Defund Racism, Defend Anti-Racism’.

4. Mobilise your organisation: if you represent a civil society organisation, you can sign a letter of solidarity to show the movement’s strength and support. Reach out to network@enar-eu.org

Every action of donating, sharing, creating or standing in solidarity matters.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

ENAR is registered as a non-profit organisation in Belgium and cannot receive the certification from the state as defending human rights is not included in the tax deductible activities of sustainability, social work or culture. See https://finances.belgium.be/fr/asbl/dons/procedure_demande#q1

Can I donate from outside Europe?

Yes! We accept donations from anywhere in the world. All contributions support the fight against racism in Europe.

Do you accept donations in currencies other than EUR?

Yes, the DonorBox platform we use for receiving donations accepts multiple currencies. The amount will be converted to EUR at the current exchange rate.

Is it safe to donate online?

Yes. We use secure, encrypted payment processing to protect your information.

Will I receive a receipt?

Upon request, you can indeed receive a donation receipt immediately after your contribution. However, the donation will not be tax deductible.

Can my company or organisation make a donation?

Absolutely. We welcome support from companies, foundations, and organisations. Contact us at fund@enar-eu.org to discuss partnership opportunities.

I have a different question. Who do I contact?

Please reach out to us at info@enar-eu.org and someone from our team will get back to you as soon as possible.

“Doing human rights work is extremely tough. You feel exhausted, devastated, mostly alone in the face of cruelty and indifference. Being a part of ENAR means, there are others that can support you, that are going through the same difficulties, and they are always there to give you a friendly touch, a valuable advice, a listening ear, sometimes a shoulder to cry on.”
