ENAR members’ events for International Day Against Racial Discrimination and European Week Against Racism

21 March is International Day Against Racial Discrimination and European Action Week Against Racism is taking place from 14 to 22 March. Across the world people will stand up to say no to racism and take part in demonstrations, exhibitions, public debates, concerts and more. The ENAR network and anti-racism activists across Europe will be engaging people at the national and local levels: check out and take part in the events they will be organising!

MRAX – Semaine d’Actions Contre le Racisme (Belgique)

Le MRAX et ses partenaires organisent cette semaine d’actions sur le thème de l’exclusion. Il invite également aux soirées d’ouverture et de clôture de la Semaine d’Action Contre le Racisme, deux moments phares de cette SACR 2015. ORBIT – Discover #DiversBrussel (Brussels, Belgium)

At the end 2014, Orbit organised a competition for the best guided tour about racism in Brussels. There were tours about multiculturalism, but no specific tour about racism. That’s why we challenged guided tour organisations to make a new tour on this subject. On 25 March, the prize giving ceremony will take place. First the three selected tours will be guided for a larger audience. Then a stand-up comedian, Arbi El Ayachi, will be given the floor. Finally, the jury will announce the winning tour. AEQUITAS – Youth exchange on combating hate speech (Limassol, Cyprus)

Aequitas is hosting from 16 to 21 March a youth exchange in Limassol, Cyprus on combating hate speech with 30 youngsters from Cyprus, Italy, Greece, Romania and Slovakia. On 21 March the participants will be issuing a statement against racism and a video on combating hate speech. More information

Greek Forum of Migrants – “Walk Against Racism” (Athens, Greece)

The Greek Forum of Migrants will organise a “Walk Against Racism” on 21 March. Representatives from groups who suffer from racism – migrants, LGBT community, Roma Community, age, religious groups/minorities etc. – will march together with prominent personalities and civil society leaders, from the Parliament to the Prime Minister’s Office, where they will deliver a resolution signed by organisations working in the field of human rights. Zene a Rasszizmus Ellen and Song-óra – Anti-Racist World Day (Budapest, Hungary)

21 March from 12.30 to 22:00, Budapest – Zene a Rasszizmus Ellen e Song-óra are organizing free events held in different location in Budapest centre, focusing on the fight against racial and cultural discrimination and intolerance. In particular, this year will focus on migration issues related to Roma integration. ENAR Ireland – Two Weeks of Anti-Racism (Ireland)

ENAR Ireland will coordinate and celebrate two weeks full of anti-racist events between 14 and 30 March. The week preceding 21 March (14-22 March) is the European Week Against Racism and the following week (21-28 March) marks the Week of Solidarity with the People Struggling against Racism and Racial Discrimination. Il Razzismo é una Brutta Storia – Italian Week Against Racism at laFeltrinelli bookstores (Italy)

The Italian Week Against Racial Discrimination is the March 16-22. Il Razzismo é una Brutta Storia organizes for kids and teachers a series of screenings with debates on racism, migration and citizenship rights in laFeltrinelli’s bookshops, libraries and schools in 10 italian cities. The selection includes the film-documentary On the Bride’s Side (by Gabriele del Grande, Khaled Soliman Al Nassiry and Antonio Agugliaro), short-films from around the world gathered in our didactic tool-kit Look Around. Stand up to racism: National demo marking UN Anti-Racism Day (London, United Kingdom)

As we approach what is set to be the most racist General Election campaign in British history, Stand Up To Racism is calling this national demonstration to demand an end to racist scapegoating of immigrants. Last year over 10,000 people from across Britain people took to the streets in London – students and trade unionists, people of all faiths and none, migrants, musicians, teachers, pensioners and parents. And together we showed unity in the face of racism. A huge demonstration this year, just a month before the General Election, will send a powerful message to all politicians: We are the majority and we will stand up to racism. Coalition for Racial Equality & Rights – Glasgow Voluntary Sector Racial Equality Network: What does racism look like in Glasgow? (Glasgow, United Kingdom)

To mark the UN International day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights welcomes speakers on a range of issues that are integral to inclusion within society at the Glasgow City Chambers on 20 March from 10 to 2 pm. This event is aimed at BME individuals and BME community groups. The audience get to take part by using voting buttons to get their views across. Results from the votes will be passed to appropriate bodies for follow up action. More information

IDA e.V. – A statement on the fight against racism in Germany

In light of International day against racism, the forum published a statement denouncing the prevailing racism in Germany and the need to take steps to fight it. The statement highlight the societal threat coming from racist and xenophobic structures, acts and thoughts by referring to the racially motivated murders committed by the so called NSU-trio over the period of 10 years across Germany. The forum wants to provide a space to discuss racism, its manifestations, and interdependencies and calls policy makers, the public administration and civil society to tackle racism.
