Current and past campaigns

2012 is the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations and ENAR is actively engaging in this Year. One of our main objectives is to raise awareness on the specific challenges faced by older ethnic minorities and migrants in Europe. We are also a member of the European Year 2012 Coalition, a growing network of stakeholders promoting the objectives of the Year.

ENAR and its members are pushing EU Member States to adopt higher levels of protection against racist crime, beyond the minimum requirements of the EU Framework Decision on combating racism and xenophobia, to ensure full protection of victims of racist hate. We need further monitoring of hate speech and effective sanctions.

ENAR's national round tables on social inclusion provide a forum for stakeholders to consider questions of social inclusion for minorities at EU and national levels. The round tables enable participants to debate how to concretely promote effective participation of ethnic and religious minorities in all spheres of society, including specifically employment, public administration, education, culture, sport, etc.

The European Commission issued a proposal for a new EU Directive to prohibit discrimination on grounds of religion or belief, age, sexual orientation and disability in access to goods and services and education in 2008. But it has been blocked at Member State level for the last four years. ENAR is campaigning to make sure the proposed directive is adopted as soon as possible.
