Symposium: 'Varieties of European racism(s)'

27-28 September 2012, Les Ateliers des Tanneurs, Brussels

The symposium provided a reflective space for in-depth discussion to explore the interconnections between institutional racism and popular racist culture, in four iner-related sessions.

The symposium aimed to:

            • bring forward evidence of new and different forms of racism through research and testimonials
            • explore the interconnections between institutional racism (structures and laws that legislate for exclusion) and popular racist culture
            • help participants understand how structural and ideological aspects of racism are driving racism and hate on the ground
            • draw similarities and differences between the different themes and better understand inconsistencies in policies and protective measures according to different types of racism.
